This quest is a retrieval task. Tried dropping and picking up the items, retrieving them from a chest, and killing myself to loot my body.

did you tried the name remover machine?...it strips items of nbt metadata, and it worked for me for IV hate(robot arm, conveyor...)Try crafting it and using the field generator in it

Yeah the quest never ended up completing for me. Since I was stuck in getting it to complete, I went ahead and made travel anchors with them so I no longer have them in my inventory. Not sure if that is an issue.
